Pamela Udumba – Ecolab Intern 2023 & Kelley MBA, Class of 2024
Interview by Deepti Singh, Kelley Life Sciences MBA Class of 2024
During the summer, I had the opportunity to intern at Ecolab, where I was part of the Healthcare Innovation program. Specifically, I worked as an MBA Marketing Intern within this function. I was introduced to this role and company through my participation in the National Black Conference.
Throughout my internship, I was primarily involved in the Healthcare Program Innovation to seek novel ways to accelerate Ecolab’s position in operating rooms.
One of the most significant challenges I faced was navigating the complex landscape of healthcare regulations within the United States and gaining a deep understanding of what truly matters to hospital stakeholders. This experience taught me that in the healthcare industry, personal connections and relationships are often more valuable than information you can find on the internet.
I had a fantastic experience when it came to networking with colleagues within the company. I was able to connect with professionals from various divisions, and I found that everyone was open and willing to engage in conversations with me.
This internship experience had a significant impact on my career goals. It helped me clarify and refine my professional aspirations. Additionally, I identified the need to further develop my analytical skills as I return for the second year of my MBA program.
During this summer internship, feel free to embrace failure as a learning opportunity. Don’t hesitate to adapt to new circumstances and environments. Ultimately, you’ll discover whether this path aligns with your aspirations. In any case, it’s a valuable and enriching experience.
